  • From Battery Research to Industrial Innovation: Bridging AI, Digital Twins and Technology Transfer

Smarter, safer, and more sustainable batteries: at INSA Strasbourg and the ICube laboratory, research is being shaped in partnership with the industry. From the hybridization of batteries and supercapacitors—the focus of the OptHySource project, which won an award at the 2022 national i-PhD competition—to the digital battery passport initiative led by Cyrine Soufi in 2025, and the use of artificial intelligence to detect overheating risks early (a project by Slimane Arbaoui recognized in the 2026 "Mature your PhD" challenge), these efforts all share a single ambition: to translate scientific breakthroughs into concrete solutions. Supported by technology transfer mechanisms through SATT Conectus, a CIFRE partnership with EDF R&D, and an industrial chair with Eiffage, this dynamic bridges the gap between academic research and industrial requirements, helping to drive the evolution of battery technology and electric mobility.

Teaching

Since 2008, I have taught what I research: how to store, manage and use electrical energy intelligently. From batteries and supercapacitors to hybrid energy systems and electric mobility, my courses bring the questions of the laboratory and the needs of industry straight into the classroom. I teach at INSA Strasbourg, ENIM Metz and École Centrale de Nantes, where I contributed to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master E-PiCo, and I have created the English-taught “Smart Manufacturing” engineering track to prepare students for Industry X.0. Beyond the lecture hall, I coordinate international student mobility and double-degree exchanges, so that my students learn to work across borders as well as across disciplines.

Engineering students took part in the test benches and demonstrators of the VEHICLE project.
